So, this weekend the hubby, my mom and I headed to the Green Valley Book Fair!! This is my mom & I’s traditional way of spending Black Friday. Sadly, we both had to work Friday so we headed up on Saturday instead. Every year we go up I always find fun things. Last year it was Husband Training Cards…I offered them to the hubby…he laughed, but I don’t think he thought I was serious. (In all fairness his mama did a great job, so there hasn’t been much training needed) So this year’s find:
Really America? Are we so dumb that we need Cliff notes for our beach reads? I mean, please, how in-depth is Nicholas Spark books? You really need vocab help? I think most third graders could read these books without a dictionary. Speaking of third graders…we had to get our photos with the “I was this tall” board…aren’t they fun? I think their measurements may have been a little off though…

I’m guilty of making the shirt mistake. My little sister goes to Pitt, and every single time I’ve worn the shirt has been a day that there’s a game against someone where I live seems to care about.
I’m surprised that people still use CliffNotes, considering that Sparknotes have been online for free for years now…
Very true…hadn’t even thought about that side of it. I will on occasion buy cliffnotes or sparknotes, but it’s only if they’re in the bargain bin for like .75 cent or a dollar and it’s a book I know I’ll use for a book club. Sometimes there are some really good discussion points that’ll be in there that I never would have thought of.
LOL…that’s funny
At least the Cliff’s notes for Harry Potter can talk about the Hero’s Journey and the symbolism/mythology used by Rowling. Sparks’ novels, on the other hand, are much more straightforward. This is terrible!
I actually have a book about exploring the world of Potter and it goes into all the mythology she used. A lot of it I already knew, but there was definitely some unexpected stuff I was unaware of.
And really, can we ever compare J.K. Rowling to Nicholas Sparks? I think not.
